CHARLESTON, W.Va. — An additional $2.5 million in state funds will be sent to West Virginia food banks to ensure they can provide food through the weekend, Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Friday.
The state has now provided nearly $9 million to state food banks amid the ongoing government shutdown to offset delayed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits — $1.1 million on Oct. 23, $5 million on Tuesday and $2.5 million on Friday.
“We're sending out an additional $2.5 million today for the food banks so they can be well positioned for the weekend to distribute more to the food pantries,” Morrisey said during a press conference at the State Capitol in Charleston. “We believe this is going to put us in a good position to get us well into next week.”
