ST. PAUL, Minn. — As hunters gear up for the firearms deer opener on Saturday, November 8, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is emphasizing the importance of safety.

The DNR advises hunters to review safe firearms handling and ensure their equipment is in working order. Wearing sufficient blaze orange or pink clothing and having a clear hunting plan are also essential.

Col. Rodmen Smith, director of the DNR Enforcement Division, highlighted the tradition of the season, stating, "Most hunters will end the season with good memories, and some will have venison in the freezer. Our goal is that the number of people who end the season injured, or worse, is zero."
