AMES – During the Iowa State women’s basketball team’s dominating win over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 28, the Cyclones generated turnovers, defended the perimeter well and put together one of their best defensive showings in a long time.

It could be a preview of things to come.

The Cyclones have put a renewed emphasis on defense that they’re hoping will show up once again when Iowa State officially kicks off the season against St. Thomas on Nov. 3 at Hilton Coliseum at 11 a.m.

“We will be better,” said Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly.

An improvement on defense could be the difference maker for an Iowa State team that struggled mightily in that area last season. The Cyclones ranked 12 th out of the 16 teams in the Big 12 Conference in defense, surrendering an average of 67.2 points per game. N
