KENTUCKY (WFIE) - A Kentucky couple took home a good chunk of change after winning $50,000 on a free promotional Powerball ticket.

Lottery officials say for years, the couple faithfully played the lottery every week.

The ticket, which they received in Louisville, was free since they took part in the First Friday Promotion.

It wasn’t discovered they had the winning ticket until two weeks later when the woman returned home from a trip to Europe.

“I always check my tickets using the app on my phone,” she said. “It popped up that we had won $50,000. I couldn’t believe it. I had to scan it again to make sure it was legit,” she said. “I got goosebumps.”

Kentucky Lottery says the couple received a check for $36,000 after taxes.

She told lottery officials she plans to use the winnings to pay
