CLEVELAND — With the U.S. Department of Agriculture poised to freeze payments to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program at midnight amid the ongoing government shutdown, political leaders in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County announced the mobilization of over $600,000 in emergency food assistance funds during a press conference on Friday.
Officials say the funds will be directed immediately to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank "to ensure people continue to have access to healthy food during the SNAP benefit pause. Funds will support a range of food security initiatives, including expanded mobile pantry operations and increased capacity at pantries."
