MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed an Executive Order on Friday declaring a state of emergency and a period of economic disruption.
Executive Order No. 278, Gov. Evers said in a release, is due to the ongoing government shutdown and uncertainties surrounding FoodShare benefits.
According to a release, Gov. Evers' order directs the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to enforce anti-price gouging measures with nearly 700,000 Wisconsinites facing a lack of food access over the uncertainty of FoodShare.
The announcement came hours after two federal judges ruled that President Donald Trump's administration must use contingency funding to continue at least some benefits of the SNAP program (FoodShare in Wisconsin).
