PORTLAND, Ore. — A three-day trial to decide whether President Donald Trump can deploy National Guard troops to Portland wrapped up Friday, leaving U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut with just two days to reach a decision before the expiration of a pair of temporary restraining orders that have kept the deployment on hold for the past month while the court case plays out.
The first restraining order blocks the deployment of Oregon National Guard troops and expires on Saturday. The second blocks the deployment of National Guard troops from all states and expires at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. Immergut promised in the closing moments of the trial that she would issue a decision before the second expiration deadline.
