SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
On Halloween night, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is organizing "Operation Boo," a safety campaign designed to ensure that sex offenders on parole remain at home while children trick-or-treat in neighborhoods.
It's a statewide effort with 330 officers conducting the compliance checks.
In Sacramento County, teams of California parole and probation officers, along with Sacramento County sheriff's deputies, plan their night of monitoring to protect children from potential predators from 5 to 9 p.m.
"Our job is to make sure that the children are safe," said Wendy Enos from CDCR. "We want them to go out and trick or treat, enjoy their night without having to worry about any sex offenders who are out there."
