TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Two University of Arizona students were killed and a third was injured in a hit-and-run crash near the campus in Tucson late Thursday, Oct. 30.
The University of Arizona said Sophia Troetel and Josiah Santos died while a third student was seriously injured. While the university identified the third student, 13 News is not releasing their name at this time.
The TPD said it happened near 2nd Street and Euclid around 11 p.m.
Luis John Artal, 19, has been identified as the suspect and made his first court appearance Friday night. According to the state, Artal is from California with few ties to the area. His attorney disputed that during the hearing and said Artal is also a student at the University of Arizona.
