FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A man has been sentenced to six years in prison after shooting at his pregnant wife; a plea deal dropped the attempted murder charge from the initial arrest.

Michael E Ward Jr. pleaded guilty to Criminal Recklessness, a Level 5 felony. As part of his plea deal, Ward will serve 6 years in prison and have charges dropped for attempted murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun. Ward signed his plea deal on October 31.

According to court documents, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a shooting near the area of Stophlet Avenue and College Avenue at around 8:52 a.m. on October 26.

Upon arrival, Officers spoke to the woman, who explained that she was Ward's partner and was pregnant. She said she had called an Uber, and once the Uber arrived, she sat in the
