MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - Election history in Vermont on this day in history.
Consuelo Northrop Bailey broke through the political glass ceiling on November 2nd, 1954, becoming the first woman to win statewide office when she was elected Lt. Governor.
It was one of many firsts for Bailey, who was also the first female states attorney and first female speaker of the Vermont house.
