Tesco is trialling a major new system in a bid to prevent theft in its stores.
Customers using scan as you shop will now be asked to use push-on scales for trolleys to weigh their items to check if the number of products matches the number of items placed in their cart.
If the figures align, customers can simply pay for their shopping and leave. However, if they don't, a staff member will need to manually scan items to check that nothing has been stolen.
The new scales can also be used for baskets. The change is currently being trialled at a small number of Tesco stores across the country, the Express reports.
