HANOVER, Pa. — The York County Community is reacting after a Catholic school's Halloween parade float depicted a replica of the Auschwitz concentration camp gate, emblazoned with the words “Arbeit Macht Frei” — a German phrase which translates to "work makes you free".
Bishop Timothy C. Senior of the Diocese of Harrisburg — which oversees St. Joseph Catholic School — said the imagery was not included in the original float design approved by the school.

In a post on the diocese's website , Rev. Senior said, "The inclusion of this image — one that represents the horrific suffering and murder of millions of innocent people, including six million Jews during the Holocaust — is profoundly offensive and unacceptable."
