Nervous residents of an older, historically cheap, unit block are opposing a development application to knock it down and build a bigger apartment block.

It is part of a fight against an ongoing development push which locals say is destroying their community in Sydney’s inner west and pricing people out of the suburb they grew up in.

While residents and councilors say new developments will change their local area, housing experts say compromises have to be made for increase not only the supply of not only affordable but also quality housing.

A development application currently before Inner West Council has proposed a set of 18 units at 50-52 Warren Rd in Marrickville make way for a new eight-storey complex.
