AUBURN — DJ Durkin is taking over for Hugh Freeze , who was fired as Auburn football coach on Sunday, Nov. 2. The program announced Durkin, its defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Including interims, Durkin's now the 32nd head coach in Auburn 's 133-year history. He's also its sixth head coach in five seasons, joining Freeze, Bryan Harsin , Gus Malzahn and former interims Carnell Williams and Kevin Steele in that span.
That comes amid an historic stretch of lacking success on the Plains. Another losing season this fall would be Auburn's fifth in a row. Durkin will be tasked with righting the ship and halting a streak that hasn't happened in the program's history since 1948-52. HOT BOARD: 9 can
