AUBURN, Alabama (WKBN) - Boardman High School graduate D.J. Durkin has been named the interim head football coach at Auburn University.
Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen made the announcement on Sunday after firing former head coach Hugh Freeze. Freeze led the Tigers to a record of 15-19.
Durkin was originally hired by the Tigers program in January of 2024.
He spent the previous two seasons as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Texas A&M. Before his time at Texas A&M, he spent two seasons at Ole Miss.
The Valley native was an assistant at Florida from 2010-14, serving as the Gators’ linebackers and special teams coach (2010-12) and defensive coordinator (2013-14). The Valley native also spent the 2015 season at Michigan as the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator.
