One of my favorite memories of visiting Los Angeles in the summer of 2023 was walking along Vine Street, looking down at the stars of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and seeing the name of music composer, arranger, and conductor Hugo Winterhalter, just another of Wilkes-Barre’s most acclaimed artists.

By my count, there are only three people from Luzerne County with stars on the Walk of Fame. Besides Winterhalter, the list includes Joe Mankiewicz and Jack Palance. In the cases of Mankiewicz and Palance, I knew they had those stars — which are located at 6201 Hollywood and 6608 Hollywood, respectively — and I went out of my way to see them.
