A man with a history of violent and sexual offences, including toward children, has been released from prison and is expected to return to Winnipeg to live.

Leslie Wayne Oliver Mercredi, 33, was released from the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre in Beausejour, Man., on Sunday after serving his latest sentence, a news release from the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit said Sunday.

The information is provided as a public service and vigilante activity will not be tolerated, the news release from the joint RCMP-Winnipeg Police Service unit said.

The unit has put out public notices of Mercredi's releases at least four times since November 2022.

The latest prison term was handed to Mercredi, who is also known as Wayne Brightnose or Leslie Mercredi, last March after he failed
