Barbara Etherington-Stewart’s pleasant memories will be preserved in Cornwall’s arts scene in the future.

The former resident, and her husband, Bill Etherington, gave a huge boost for the construction of the city’s arts and culture centre at 159 Pitt St.

“It is my great pleasure to announce that (Barbara and Bill) have made a donation of $1 million to the arts and culture fundraising fund,” said Katie Burke, fundraising committee chair, prompting a gush of appreciation from some 100 guests at the Cornwall and Area Arts Hall of Fame gala held Saturday evening.

Burke then passed on this statement from the couple, now based in Toronto:
