WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Two barges that washed ashore in Milford before drifting to West Haven last week were removed Sunday.

Crews were seen moving the barges, tugging them away Sunday morning. The barges are owned by Buchanan Marine and are used to carry large loads of dirt, rocks and other natural materials.

Residents said they have seen more people coming to the area hoping to catch a glimpse of the barges themselves.

"It's been quit the exciting adventure here," West Haven resident John Finn said. "Nobody has seen anything like it. It's brought lots of tourists. It's been more excitement than anybody has seen here in a long time."

Heavy winds and uncooperative tides made it difficult for the 140-foot barges to be moved.
