LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities in Madison and Barren counties are asking families to be extra cautious and vigilant in checking Halloween candy after contaminated pieces were found.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office said they were notified Friday after a child had been trick-or-treating in the area off Highway 1016 in Berea. When the child got home, the family began inspecting the cany and discovered needles inside of a pack of Twizzlers.

A second incident was reported Saturday after a family had been trick-or-treating in the areas of Boone Way, Derby Chase & Saratoga Circle in Richmond.

The family found a needle inside a single package of Almond Joy.
