LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police in southern Indiana have solved a nearly thirty year old cold case ending with a Tennessee man’s arrest.
According to Indiana State Police, the case began in September 1996 when investigators responded to a report from an adult female victim who said she was sexually assaulted after leaving the former Austin Lounge in Austin, Indiana with two men.
Police say she provided a name she believed belonged to man suspected in the incident. However, police confirmed DNA analysis stated the person was not the perpetrator.
An ISP forensic scientist informed investigators in June 2025 that DNA technology and techniques had identified a close genetic relative of the original suspect profile.
Investigators conducted further interviews and identified 53-year-old Sammy Riley
