The week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1 was a busy week of Iowa high school football playoffs featuring teams from the Des Moines metro area.

The metro area featured several standout Round of 16 football games on Oct. 31, highlighted by four-time defending Class 5A state champion Southeast Polk's 21-14 upset win over No. 5 Ankeny at Ankeny.

The Iowa high school cross country championships also took place during the week. Indianola won the 4A boys team championship, edging defending champion Cedar Falls, 102 points to 104.

There were several outstanding individual performances from metro-area football players and boys cross country runners during the week.
