NEWARK - The Democratic Party, just days from Election Day, pulled out its big guns to give Rep. Mikie Sherrill a boost in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race.

Former President Barack Obama came out to Newark in support of Sherrill for a get-out-the-vote rally at Essex County College on Saturday, Nov. 1. Sherrill is vying against Republican Jack Ciattarelli for the governor’s seat in the Nov. 4 election. The incumbent, Gov. Phil Murphy, is term-limited and can't run again.

“I know there’s someone here tonight who knows a little bit about hope,” Sherrill said before bringing Obama to the stage, referring to the iconic image that represented the former president’s campaign.
