More than 9% of the registered voters in Minneapolis have already cast their ballots in this year's election for mayor and all 13 of the city's ward seats.

On Monday, the City of Minneapolis confirmed that 23,000 residents have cast ballots since early voting began on Sept. 19 – the second highest early voting turnout in a municipal election, according to the city.

The record is still held by the 2021 municipal election, when every citywide elected office was on the ballot, plus three ballot questions including one determining whether Minneapolis Police Department would be disbanded and replaced with new Office of Public Safety.

Under a ranked-choice voting system, this year's ballot asks voters to choose as many as three candidates in order of preference in each race.
