PORTSMOUTH — Sean Gray made Portsmouth High School history on Saturday when he became the school’s first individual boys’ cross-country Rhode Island champion.

And, the senior didn’t even have to run as fast as he did last year.

Although there have been a couple of PHS girls who have won the state championship — Laura Turner in 1996 and 1997, and Elizabeth Sullivan in 2018 — the individual title has been elusive for the boys.

Until Saturday, that is.
