PORTSMOUTH — Despite brisk winds and a post-Halloween chill, several hundred cyclists and pedestrians turned out early Saturday for the 3rd Annual Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll, transforming a scenic stretch of Island Park and the Hummocks into a car-free playground by the sea.
From 8:30 a.m. to noon, the town closed portions of Park Avenue, Point Road, Hummocks Avenue, and Anthony Road to motorized traffic, creating a safe, continuous route that also connected directly with the shared-use path on the Sakonnet River Bridge. The setup invited walkers, runners, and riders from Tiverton and beyond to join in the relaxed, family-friendly event.
