QUICKSBURG — Students at Ashby Lee Elementary School marked the start of the academic year with the introduction of a redesigned literacy courtyard, a welcoming outdoor space for reading, collaboration and engagement.

“Every single group that worked together on this project made it seamless,” said Title 1 reading specialist Alice Bauserman, who learned of a similar courtyard inside Massanutten Regional Governor’s School while visiting her son's teachers for parent/teacher night.

Impressed by what she saw, she hoped to one day see a partnership between the schools on a similar project.
