AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) — Auburn officials are holding a press conference to introduce former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin as interim head coach.
The move comes after Hugh Freeze was fired as head coach of the football team, following the 10-3 loss to Kentucky, which made it the team's fifth loss against an SEC opponent.
Durkin will serve as interim head coach while the university begins its search for a permanent replacement.
Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen addressed media members and fans on Monday and provided details on his search for a permanent head coach.
"All the characteristics, somebody with an edge, somebody who is highly competitive... that's usually priority No. 1 is to find that part. Then, intelligence, strategic, forward-thinking, all those things matter," he said.
