NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) -The SFA Lady Jacks kicked off their campaign for back-to-back Southland Conference titles today against the Nelson Lady Lions.

Nelson’s Ashley Gonzalez started the scoring at the William R. Johnson Coliseum before the ‘Jacks jumped out to a 26-10 lead after the first quarter.

Both sides would trade baskets throughout the second quarter, with SFA taking a 46-29 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Lions would push the SFA lead down to 15, but that would be as close as they would get for the rest of the game.

The Lady Jacks lead ballooned all the way to 33 late in the fourth as SFA started off the season 1-0 with a 85-54 win.

After the game, SFA head coach Leonard Bishop spoke on his team coming away from the season opener with a win.
