Diane Ladd, the three-time Oscar nominated actress best known for her sharp wit in “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” and for raising another Hollywood star, Laura Dern, has died. She was 89.
Dern announced her mother’s death in a statement, saying she was at Ladd’s side in her home in Ojai, Calif., at the time of her death.
“She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created,” Dern said. “We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”
During a long and varied career, Ladd was nominated for three Oscars , including the first for “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” in 1974, and three Emmys, the last of which came in 1997 for “Touched by Angel.”
