WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A massive hole in the ground continues to cause headaches for drivers and businesses in downtown Wichita following Sunday’s water main break at Central and Washington .
The hole caused by the break is at least 10 feet deep and about twice as wide. In addition to causing traffic delays, it’s a problem for nearby businesses. The gaping hole sits right outside the Meineke Car Care Center location near Central and Washington.
Meineke General Manager Mike Madden said initially, the hole didn’t look that deep, at least not from a distance. The closer he got, the more he realized that this was no small problem.
“And then when I pulled in, I walked up to it, it’s pretty extreme,” Madden said. “I couldn’t believe it.”
