ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have picked their new manager, and it's a familiar face.
The team announced on Monday afternoon that they hired Walt Weiss, the team's bench coach for the past eight seasons, as its 49th manager in franchise history.
Weiss succeeds former Braves managers Brian Snitker, Fredi Gonzales and Bobby Cox, who served as the past three managers. Snitker announced he was stepping down as the team's manager after serving 10 seasons in the role and winning one World Series. Weiss was alongside him for most of that time.
The 61-year-old Weiss has been a part of the Braves organization for 11 seasons as both a player and coach. He began his tenure as Atlanta’s bench coach in 2018, helping lead the club to a 680-513 record , second-best in the National League and fourth-be
