MACON, Ga. — As downtown Macon continues to grapple with public safety concerns, homelessness, and sanitation issues, the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) is making a significant new investment to tackle those problems head-on.

During a regularly scheduled October meeting, the BID board approved more than $100K for new programs to make downtown cleaner and safer, as first reported by The Macon Newsroom .

That includes hiring a full-time outreach specialist dedicated to building relationships with people experiencing homelessness and funding enhanced community engagement training for Bibb County sheriff’s deputies who patrol the area.
