(FOX40.COM) -- While food insecurity continues to affect many families across San Joaquin County, one Stockton woman is taking matters into her own hands.

Brittany Ortega, a single mother and Delta College student, is organizing a community food giveaway this weekend at Brotherhood Park in Stockton. The event will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and her goal is to feed at least 200 children.

Despite facing challenges of her own, Ortega has been using her own money to buy groceries and coordinate the event with the help of her children. Over the past week, she's also reached out to the community through social media, calling for donations of food or funds to help stock the giveaway.
