San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Dylan Harper is reportedly expected to miss multiple weeks with a left calf strain, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Harper sustained the injury in the second quarter on Sunday in a loss to the Phoenix Suns, defending a layup attempt by Nick Richards. He was limited to 11 minutes, recording 12 points and one rebound before leaving the contest for good.
The No. 2 pick was seen leaving the Mortgage Matchup Center on crutches in a walking boot. He underwent an MRI on Monday in Los Angeles, California, which confirmed the extent of the injury.
Harper is averaging 14 points, four rebounds and 3.8 assists on 35.7% shooting from 3-point range in six appearances with the Spurs. He is third among all rookies in scoring and is one of six first-year players to score at least 20 points in a game this season.
The 19-year-old has emerged as a key player in the backcourt off the bench for coach Mitch Johnson. He has provided the unit with scoring and the ability to impact games on the defensive end of the court, putting together several key stops in the early going.
Harper is the latest Spurs player to be added to the injury report, joining the likes of De'Aaron Fox, Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, Jeremy Sochan and Lindy Waters III. The group will have to turn to others to fill his place in the lineup and will be hopeful that he misses minimal time.
