DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- Day 4 at the national peanut festival is about celebrating farmers who have played a pivotal role in the community, dating back to 81 years ago when there was not a lot of industry, to now, where the area has grown tremendously.
"Farming is still a large part here, peanut oil production still comes from this area, cattle is big in this area, and cotton, other crops, hay, it's just a good thing," said Jamar Ivey, owner of Ivey Farms.
For farmers appreciation day, pre registered farmers and their families get into the gate for free.
"This is one of our largest nights when people are out here. This is why we started this, and it's good for the community. "
Ivey who is a farmer says it means a lot for the festival to appreciate the hard work they put in 24/7, 365 days
