SAN MARCOS, Texas — On Monday, the Trump administration announced it’s working to send out a $4.65 billion partial payment to keep the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, funded.
Two days earlier on Nov. 1, 42 million Americans lost access to SNAP benefits.
That partial SNAP funding will only cover about half of the households who rely on it, and it won’t be distributed to states and individuals immediately.
In the meantime, several organizations and elected officials in Hays County are coming together to meet the need now for the nearly 17,000 county residents receiving SNAP.
On Monday outside of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, community leaders announced the launch of the For Our Neighbors Fund.
