AUSTIN, Texas — Tuesday marks Election Day in Texas, where voters statewide are deciding on 17 amendments to the state constitution, plus some local races.
In Austin, that includes Proposition Q. The measure, if approved, would raise the city’s property tax rate roughly 20% compared to the last fiscal year.
Supporters say Prop Q would fund key services, while offsetting a state-imposed property tax revenue cap and federal funding cuts.
Opponents call it “a forever tax” and want city leaders to cut spending instead.
On Election Day, people on both sides of this issue used every hour left to get people to the polls.
