OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An 11-year-old girl is using her national platform to help kids in the foster care system.
With more than 4,000 kids in the Nebraska foster care system, Ava Johnson is working to collect donations for them, filling a gap to meet their needs.
She collected 20,000 pairs of socks and underwear to donate to foster children in her home state, Kansas. Ava spent time in the foster care system herself before being adopted nine years ago.
She now hosts a large donation drive each year on her adoption anniversary. After becoming a Princess of American Junior Ambassador in August, she started taking her efforts to the other states.
