OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha woman battling a disabling disease says she had been caught in the middle of a billing dispute. Notices from a collection agency just added to the stress.

“You have to have this treatment in order to stay functioning and not get sick because Muscular Dystrophy affects all your muscles,” said Evie Kava.

But Evie Kava says halfway through a half dozen treatments, she had to walk away because of a dispute with Aetna insurance.

“How can you deny a preapproval that came from your company because you and CHI don’t want to play together. It’s not fair to the patient,” Kava said.

Evie and her sister have been navigating CHI Health bills after they expected insurance would cover most of the treatment cost but didn’t.
