OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon is leading a bipartisan effort to end the government shutdown by extending healthcare subsidies that help millions of Americans afford insurance.
Bacon and three other lawmakers from both parties released a compromise plan Monday that would extend healthcare tax credits and prevent premium increases for 130,000 Nebraskans, according to a national policy research firm.
The bipartisan group includes Democrats Tom Suozzi from New York and Josh Gottheimer from New Jersey, plus Republican Jeff Hurd from Colorado.
Potential premium increases
The organization “Keep Americans Covered” provided an example of potential premium increases: a Nebraska couple earning $83,000 a year could see an increase of more than $23,000.
