CORDOVA, Ala. (WIAT) -- A major repaving project is kicking off in the city of Cordova.
The city held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the project, which is being funded by a federal grant.
Cordova Mayor Jeremy Pate said the city first applied for the grant in 2021. He said it will lead to 23 of the city's 29 miles of roadways being repaved.
"This was the first grant that we actually filed for when we came into office," Pate said. "So once we received it, we've been working through this process for my whole first term. So I'm swearing into today on my second term, and to start this project on the first day of my second term is pretty rewarding."
Pate said the project will spur growth in Cordova.
