HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- The city of Hoover has a new mayor and newly elected city council members.
The official swearing-in ceremony was held at Hoover High School on Monday evening for newly elected and returning city leaders. Former police chief Nick Derzis is now mayor Derzis.
He was sworn in along with newly elected city council members Robin Schultz and Ashley Lovell. Gene Smith is back on the council after previous service. Four returning council members were also sworn in including Casey Middlebrooks, who was elected Hoover City Council president.
Derzis plans to hit the ground running Tuesday by meeting with department heads and all of their employees. He’s had a transition team in place for two months discussing the future of the Riverchase Galleria and other items. He promises
