BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - From police chief to city leader, Nick Derzis officially took the oath of office Monday night as Hoover’s new mayor, marking a major shift in leadership for one of Alabama’s largest cities.
Derzis, who previously served as Hoover’s police chief, defeated incumbent Mayor Frank Brocato in the city’s municipal election in August. As he steps into his new role, Derzis says his focus is on maintaining Hoover’s reputation for excellence, keeping residents safe, and ensuring transparency in local government.
Derzis said before the ceremony that his goal is to “continue the standard of excellence the citizens of Hoover deserve,” while also improving communication and accountability between city leaders and residents.
