A man has died and five other people have been seriously injured in a crash in Western Australia's north.

The crash happened just after 6pm on Monday on the outskirts of Kununurra, about 3,000 kilometres north of Perth.

WA Police said two vehicles collided on the Victoria Highway near Valentine Springs Road and Weero Road.

A 49-year-old man, who was the passenger in a white Toyota HiLux, died at the scene.

In a statement, police said the driver and another passenger were also injured.

"The 36-year-old male driver and 27-year-old female passenger of the Hilux were airlifted to Darwin with critical injuries," the statement read.

Police said the 30-year-old female driver of the second vehicle, a white Toyota Fortuner, was flown to Perth with serious injuries.
