TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - After months of uncertainty, residents of the Flowing Wells community reestablished their meal site for local seniors on Monday.

Reuniting their community, which many who take part in the senior meal program say is so vital.

“Listening to old stories and just everything. Hearing about other people’s problems, you know, just being there for each other, and that means a lot to me. That is my family,” Flowing Wells resident Heake Wachel said.

Funding cuts to the Pima Council on Aging due to the expiration of COVID-era funding forced Catholic Community Services’ congregate meals program.

“I was upset. I was angry. I’m like, what happened here?” Wachel said.
