MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) - With food insecurity reaching alarming levels in Franklin County, 15 community organizations, town departments, and local agencies have joined forces to confront hunger and the growing strain caused by the recent suspension of SNAP benefits.
Formed in March 2025, the Montague Food Security and Sustainability Coalition is a collaboration designed to address immediate food needs while building long-term infrastructure for a more sustainable response to hunger.
Supported by a three-year grant from the United Way of Franklin and Hampshire Counties, the coalition meets weekly to coordinate resources, share food, and expand local pantry capacity.
“I’ve been doing this work for 40 years. This is the first time anyone has tried to bring us together,” said Amy Connelly,
