WASHINGTON — After over a year, DC Police have arrested a man in connection with a child's death.

On May 8, 2024, police were called to the 1400 block of L Street SE for reports of an unconscious child at 12:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found 3-year-old Zy'Onne Forney unconscious and unresponsive in the hallway of the apartment.

First responders took Zy'Onne to a local hospital. Despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at 1:27 p.m.

The DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that Zy'Onne's manner of death was a Homicide.

According to the incident report, she was asphyxiated. A woman with the same last name as Zy'Onne reported her death to police. Detectives say Zy'Onne's death was a domestic issue.
