And cold and drizzly conditions certainly hasn’t dulled the pomp and splendour of the day for Melbourne Cup, with more than 90,000 people expected to pass through the gates at Flemington Racecourse.
Racegoers arrived early, trying to nab the best spot by the track.
Quirky fashion and psychedelic patterns looked to be the order of the day, with punters opting for eye-catching suits as they enjoyed a tipple on the grass or, if lucky enough, in The Birdcage.
Former Sunrise host Sam Armytage cut a glamorous figure in a sleeveless red frock, which had fringing at the bottom. She paired the look with a red, pillbox hat and matching heels.
Shane Warne’s children Jackson and Brooke Warne happily posed together, with no sign of sibling rivalry.
